Reformationally Minded

Sola Scriptura

The Holy Bible is God’s inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word. The Bible is sufficient and clear in teaching all that is necessary for salvation. It is the final authority in all matters of doctrine, life, and godliness. All other authorities, confessions, and creeds in the Christian life serve underneath scripture, even as they are useful for instruction and a witness to the Holy Spirit’s work in the church through the ages.

Sola Christus

The fullest revelation of God is found in Jesus Christ. The second person of the Trinity having taken on flesh. The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the only work by which we are redeemed and saved from all our sin. This includes our sin which was inherited from Adam by all humans, and personal sins which we have committed and continue to commit as Christians. Jesus invites all to come to him, “Come to me all you who labor and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am humble and gentle in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Mat. 11:28). When we put our faith in Jesus our sins our washed away and we are made righteous in the sight of God.

Sola Gratia

It is by the grace of God, alone, that we are saved. Salvation is not a result of our own work; it is a gift from God. The grace by which God saves us in no way originates within us but stems from God’s mercy from eternity. “God chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world.” This God who chose us from eternity by his grace calls us out of darkness into the light of his own Son and raises us from spiritual death to spiritual life. Amazing grace!

Sola Fide

How do we receive the redemption Christ has accomplished? We are saved only by putting our faith in Jesus Christ. Faith is in the Bible as “resting in”, “receiving”, “coming to”, “looking to” and “calling upon” Jesus. Faith is looking to Jesus as both willing and able to save us from our sins and give us eternal life. In looking to Jesus in faith, we receive Jesus as our savior.

Soli Deo Gloria

The ultimate purpose of life is to glorify God and enjoy him forever. Because our salvation is the work of God, Christ being the author and finisher of our faith, and not ourselves, God alone receives the glory. The boast of every Christian is in Jesus Christ our Lord.We live our lives before the Triune God and all our life is lived in light of God’s amazing mercy and grace. This means that in our thoughts, words, and deeds we aim to show how God is magnificent and how worthy of our love He is. The Christian life ought to be lived in humility and conformity to the word of God as we await the fulfillment of all God’s promises.

“At the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Our lives are lived in eager anticipation of that day.
